St. Mark's Soccer in the Cage

This photo is tilt-shifted in order to look like toy people playing soccer. It is originally a picture of the St. Mark's cage with two boy teams playing soccer against each other. I brightened the colors to make them look very bright like a toy, and I also blurred the top and the bottom to make the soccer players seem small and fake.

Dining Hall

This is a photo of our dining hall from the St. Marks Website. The tilt-shifing helps give it a minature model feel.  I also heightened the color saturation for a "painted" effect.

The landscape of the picture and the town below were perfect for tilt-shifting.  The picture was taken on the 2013 Choir trip to Italy and displays the beauty the students of St. Mark's witnessed. I thought that using a tilt-shifting effect on this photo would add emphasis on the town and focus the eye on the beauty of the architecture.

For this picture of the main building I focused on the floor and windows with the air conditioners. Then I amplified the all of the colors enhancing the effect of the blue sky and the red brick seen all around the campus. This makes the building seem as though it is a little toy structure.

Tilt Shifting

This is a photo that was taken in the DR. I found it on the SM website. I took it and tilt-shifted. I blurred out most of the picture and played around with the color. I boosted the saturation, lowered the hue and heightened the contrast, making this picture look very toy-like.

I got this picture from the St. Mark's Photo Gallery. This is the choir singing in Italy during the 2013 Italy trip. To tilt shift this picture I blurred the building background and focused only on the choir singing.

Southborough Run for Boston: I tilt shifted this image by by blurring the trees in the background and the bottom of the photo to focus on the participants of the run and the crowd.

Tilt shifting and enhancing the color of this train makes the train seem toy-like, and also it made the terrain around the train seem fake. The length of the train also makes the head car especially stand out.

I liked this picture because I wanted to make the taxi cabs seem fake and made of plastic. Also, the people on this street in NYC seem small and figurine-like because of the tilt-shifting effect.

Rowing

The crew team looked like a pretty good choice for a subject, because there is some good space in the picture and the water when blurred looks modelish.

STM Soccer

You can get a lens that does tilt-shifting, but we are using photoshop.  One tutorial for tilt-shift photography is at http://www.tiltshiftphotography.net/tilt-shift-photography-photoshop-tutorial/ .  Following the instructions there, we looked for photos that would give the impression of a model. Then we used a quick mask and a reflected gradient. With tht gradient area selected we applied the lens blur filter, and then made photo adjustments (hue and saturation) to try create the minature model effect.

Take a Look at Our Photos Using the Tilt-Shift Effect

Since the beginning of the term, we were interested in the Tilt-Shift effect.  We have seen it in movies, like Gulliver's Travels and on the Web.  It makes life into a minature model.  There are some really good examples at:

And we are going to make our own using scenes from our school!.
